An Open Letter To My Sisters

“Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life and said, ‘I’m here for you’, and proved it.” -Unknown

To My Sisters,

Not only two semesters ago, I endured what seemed like the roughest week of my college career. It was recruitment week, meaning we also had Parent’s Weekend, a football game, a Senate meeting for Student Government, and two exams. The stereotype of recruitment meant that the week was spent trying to show off the better part of my personality. But, what I really wanted it to show, was my desire to become someone better than my current self, to immerse myself in a sisterhood of love and endless bonding. I never anticipated to allow myself to fall in love with a group of complete strangers so quickly.

When bid day came, I had no clue what sorority I was going to end up in. I had no clue where I’d end up, and I was honestly letting my fate decide where I ended up, knowing that there was a reason behind the bid card. But, when I walked in with a group of sorority girls, I never anticipated running into the arms of my future best friends.

Looking back at it now, there was nothing I would’ve changed about my experience. You are the group of people that picked me up and dusted me off when my life blew up in flames, when I was sure I couldn’t fix it all by myself. It was you group of strong women who stand up for one another, who put their opinions aside to celebrate the one common motto that we stand by. Without you group of ladies, I probably wouldn’t even be the person I’ve became over the past semester.

During a tough time in the semester, one of my older sisters spoke out and said, “When you’re having a tough time, remember why you joined this sisterhood, and most importantly, think of why you chose to stay.” I remember joining this sisterhood because I loved the wide array of vibrant personalities, and knowing that this sisterhood may give me a chance to make more of a difference within my community. I chose to stay because of the endless love that I give to those who I love within the chapter, the desire to learn more about the beauty of this chapter, and to give all that I can while representing something bigger than me.

So, all in all, I thank you, every one of you. Through a group of 110 women, I have found my future bridesmaids, the women who I respect the most in life, the women who challenge me to be better than who I already am, and the women who have the same passion and drive that I do to go further than just the average college experience.

With all the love in my heart,

As always, xoxo.
